Shinra didn't know the effects of the sphere-grid when he created it and since Yuna's travels she's learned to fix, change and handle the sphere-grid in a way that no other has. Parts have merged with her and if it were taken away now it wouldn't work nearly as well with another. Some spheres wouldn't work at all. Her soul resonates with it and when it is taken away she can feel it, humming softly, calling back to her.

Each sphere change now happens differently however the thread still turns to silver strands and wraps around Yuna's body. Some changes are just her clothes while others are parts of her that are merged with magic and spirits of others.

GUNNER

Yuna's default dressphere and one of the only ones that hasn't been altered due to her travels, the Gunner, allows her to shoot an enemy from afar. This dressphere has excellent Accuracy and fair Agility. The Gunner's most useful abilities include Scatterburst, Tableturner, Enchanted Ammo, Trigger Happy and Cheap Shot, as it ignores target's defense. Her outfit hasn't changed and it's usually what she can be found wearing as it's close to her heart. Over the years this sphere has merged with her soul becoming not only stronger but a part of her. This sphere when stolen doesn’t work for others and when it’s separated from Yuna the swirling pink and gold water inside the sphere freezes and turns gray.

THIEF

A sphere that once resonated to Rikku's soul has now been altered thanks to the desert of Vastitas. The Thief is a quick attacking job that allows the player to steal items. As such, it has a high Agility, combined with balanced strength, defenses and Luck. Thief is the fastest dressphere and gets two attacks in one though the attacks are weaker. The Thief's most useful abilities include Flee, Steal, Pilfer HP, Pilfer MP, Pilfer Gil, First Strike and Master Thief. Yuna has two blades and a new outfit. The soul that had changed and merged with her sphere grid was that of the warrior Anna. She was known as a dragon tamer and legends about her had spread over Vastitas. She had fallen in love with a politician from the capital and as such it had meant her death. When Yuna met her it’d been a violent encounter and Yuna survived from tenacity alone. Awed and inspired by Yuna’s spirt Anna had merged with the sphere, her memory forever imprinted with its strengths as her soul finally got to rest. This sphere looks like orange and red fire cutting its way through water.

Thief Outfit

WARRIOR

A sphere that once resonated to Paine's soul has down been altered thanks to the planet Corrall. Warriors have good Strength and high Defense and their most useful abilities include Power Break, Armor Break, Magic Break, Mental Break and the elemental attacks. The soul that now resonates in the sphere is named Alhede. The sphere is no longer able to access elemental attacks as Corrall has no magic. Alhede had been a travel and tradesmen who wandered the dangerous footpaths of the mountain. With his daughter’s birth he’d begun to train and train if only to keep his family safe. On her tenth birthday he’d run across the mountain pass to purchase a present in the adjacent town. He never returned home. Yuna befriended his daughter and at her request searched the mountain for any signs of her father. It’d been years but Yuna was determined. She found many who died in the mountains and tried her best to ease their pain. With her warrior garment equipped she’d become possessed by Alhede and walked from the mountains with a new form to give the gift to his daughter. His daughter, at this point, was soon to be married and through Yuna’s eyes he watched her. The possession lasted to long and while Yuna sought to release him they remained joined together, feeling the love and loss of his daughter. Alhede then swore to protect Yuna as if she was his own daughter, if only because she allowed him a small measure of piece. Alhede is one of the few souls who talks to Yuna when she’s alone and will often appear next to her as a spirt. This sphere is colored black and gray with small blue streaks of turning water.

SONGSTRESS

Songstress relies on the character's dancing and singing skills to inflict status ailments on enemies or to support her group. With this Yuna is able to make people feel specific emotions or become empathetic. It only works if it’s an emotion that the characters already have a capacity to feel. The Songstress dressphere had been comprised of Lenne's memories which had vanished when Yuna finally gave Shuyan a place to rest. She feels the absence of Lenne but she’s also happy for her. In its place the songstress sphere began to pull at Yuna and take fragments of her own memories to power it. Like the gunner sphere this one can only be used by Yuna and the purple and silver glow of the sphere freezes and turns gray should it leave her side. Thanks to Yuna’s personal tendencies the sphere has absorbed two distinct memories that it feeds from. The first is the singer, a passion that had been left in her by Lenne and then flourished by her love for music. The second began to develop in New York which is when Yuna began to play the guitar. It was a different expression of music and her sphere had reacted accordingly. The man who taught her had been James Taylor and he’d been the only one to learn of Yuna’s abilities during her stay on Earth. Her singer form is much stronger than her guitar form.

BLACK MAGE

The Black Mage dressphere allows characters to cast devastating Black Magic spells. A Black Mage wields elements such as Fire, Water, Lightning, and Ice. She can also use Flare and Ultima. This was originally created from Maechen's memories but has since changed and divided. The black mage outfit changed slightly as magic worked differently in each new world and Maechen’s memories alone couldn’t flue it. It ended up separating into five different seconds all are strong and weak in their own right while tying closer to the elements than before. The general black mage outfit works the same using all the elements minus air at a light to medium damage range. The other forms are more like bending the elements (hence the affectionate names below). Yuna learned to tie her soul to the elements themselves creating these forms. She did so in the first world she found herself in, Slvanus, after learning that her magic wouldn’t work. It took her over a year to perfect these forms and even now she’s still learning about them and their limits. If she pushes herself too far she can pass out from the mental strain. This sphere is white, brown, blue and red swirling like water, when a Bender is equipped that color becomes the most prevalent.

WHITE MAGE

White Mages equip rods and cannot attack unless they use holy. They cast White Magic and healing and holy in this case is a bright light that only hurts darkness be it in people’s hearts or those born of darkness. The White Mages' HP is low, but they have excellent Magic Defense. This dressphere is born of Yuna’s own memories and soul. She’d been a white mage prior to Sin’s defeat and they are skills that she hasn’t forgotten. After finding herself in Slvanus and relearning her black magic abilities she taped into her own abilities and was able to find the light within herself to heal. Using the sphere grid as an amplifier makes these abilities stronger. This is the only dressphere she can use pieces of no matter what she has equipped, however, she has to meditate regularly and keep her thoughts and mind clear in order to keep the connection between her mind and heart strong. This magic also taps into her soul and using it to much can result in her own death. She has felt this weakness before and knows that it’s possible. If she pushes herself too far she can also pass out. This sphere is looks like water but is silver and white in color.

Gun MAGE

The Gun Mage is quite weak in all areas except Magic. Fiend Hunter abilities deal quadruple damage to specific fiend types. Gun Mages also have the Blue Bullet skill, which works like traditional Blue Magic, in that the character learns an enemy's ability by having it performed on them and surviving the battle. This sphere, like others, was altered with Yuna’s first jump. It doesn’t just hold the memory of the gun mage but also different monsters she’s faced over the course of her travels. These monsters include abilities from the Sky dragons, a badger type monster, an octopus, a fire horse and a pirate’s ghost named Raven. This sphere looks like water and is several shades of swirling blue.

ALCHEMIST

Alchemists can use several items from a limitless stash and mix items together to make stronger items. The Alchemist's most useful abilities include Mega-Potion, Elixir, Phoenix Down, Mix, Chemist, Elementalist, and Items Level Ups. This sphere has gone relatively unchanged except for the presence of a new, stronger, memory. Lily had been a young girl who practiced her magic with her father and brother in a small house in the woods. Her specialties were in positions though she often found heartache in her work since it had been her mother's. The young girl's mother haunted their home and so Yuna healed the wounded soul. The mother's memories imprinted into Yuna’s sphere, making it possible to mix new things. This Sphere looks like water but is green and gold.

DARK NIGHT

Dark Knight has great HP, Strength and Defense, and also has fair Magic Defense. Dark Knights have abilities such as Bio and Break. They have attacks which drain the user's HP in order to cause damage, similar to the Darkside attack from previous games; and Black Sky, a powerful multi-hit attack. The Dark Knight has more status-proof abilities than any other dressphere. This sphere was poisoned during Yuna’s time on Arceo. The prison held a secret and within it a man of terrible power and fame. He was something like a vampire and in his efforts to escape he used Yuna. It isn’t just a memory but a piece of him that is now trapped within the sphere. Yuna fears him getting loose and this dressphere is often activated without her knowledge or intent. In order to use the ‘darkness’ ability or the speed that this vampire naturally possess Yuna must drink human blood. When using this sphere it has the ability to slip from her control and the mad king will gain control of Yuna’s body though he’ll only be able to use this one sphere. Should someone else attempt they will most likely be taken over by him and die from the physical efforts needed. After using this sphere Yuna has to rest and if she doesn’t she passes out. This is the only sphere that doesn’t look like what but looks like black obsidian.

DESERT SAMURAI

The Samurai has high Strength and is useful for dispatching large groups of enemies with Bushido abilities like Fireworks, and command abilities like Zantetsu. It has the useful Bushido ability Clean Slate, which heals the user and removes status ailments. In this form Yuna uses a long sword. While affected by her time in Vastitas it isn’t affected by a single person but a culture/race. The memories of the desert tribe have infused into the sphere boosting its strength while also giving Yuna the ability to withstand harsh climates like the desert. There is no magic attached to this culture however the presence of water makes Yuna feel stronger. She’s able to use crude weapons besides her long blade including an ability that makes night appear as day or day appear as night. This is simply an illusion and doesn’t affect the actual day. Yuna is able to produce other illusions as well but the items must me around her i.e. making copies of herself.

LUCKY GAMBLER

This sphere is altered in Corall. The abilities remain the same though Yuna can continue to use her guns. The memories that have attached to this sphere are a western style old west sort of feel. It’s where she spent a half a year working in order to live in this mountainous area. Her style of dress lends to keep cards and dice at her belt. It’s Yuna’s own memories that fill this sphere now as well as the memories of those who worked at the particular bar she lived above. The sphere appears as if sand is swirling in a shimmering escape of water. If someone else tries to use this sphere it will freeze and turn gray as it’s now connected to Yuna’s own memories and spirit.

The Berserker has low Defense, but is balanced by great HP, Strength and Evasion. Equipping the Berserker with a Haste-inducing accessory makes the Berserker a deadly attacker. Berserkers can double their max HP with Howl, and can inflict Berserk on themselves.

TRAINED HUNTER

The Trainer is a version of the Beastmaster from past games. Unlike in other games, where Mediators equip whips (or daggers and guns, like in Final Fantasy Tactics), Final Fantasy X-2 Trainers attack by giving orders to pets. Yuna uses a dog similar to Daigoro (Yojimbo's dog) named Kogoro, Rikku uses a monkey named Ghiki, and Paine uses a pheasant named Flurry.

Each animal accepts different commands and performs different abilities. This is similar to releasing monsters in Final Fantasy V, except the monsters are permanent. To obtain the dressphere, Yuna must talk to and correctly respond to Kimahri in Chapter 2. He will give the dressphere to the party in Chapter 3 when Garik Ronso is planning to attack the Guado. If Yuna rests at the Celsius cabin at least once every chapter, in Chapter 5 a scene will occur and the player can rename the animals by talking to Barkeep.

CHOCOBO KNIGHT

The Mascot had been the strongest dressphere that Yuna possessed and yet the moment she found herself in a new world it had broken and the connection severed from the Celsius. When Yuna first tapped back into the sphere she found fragments of the costume and then something hidden beneath. It had been a love between two friends; affection strong enough to change and reform the sphere into something new. When this dressphere is used it summons a Chocobo and his moogle friend who are named Stride and Kupow respectively. They fight side by side with Yuna while Stride often carries her into battle he can also heal. Kupow focuses on support abilities such as shell, protect and nulls while Yuna dons a spear and attacks. This sphere involves all three of them working in harmony. When she’s brought to a new world the pair starts from infancy again, as if the sphere is resetting. It takes three months for the Chocobo to reach maturity.

FLORAL FALLEN

A giant flower with two pistils Yuna uses to dish out magic attacks. The dressphere is mastered with two key items found in Chapter 5: Aurora Rain that gives Break HP Limit, is found in the back of Yojimbo's chamber in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth at the bottom of the Calm Lands northern gorge; and Twilight Rain, that gives Break Damage Limit, is under a bridge on the long Besaid path. Floral Fallal is obtained when chasing the Leblanc Syndicate on the Djose Highroad in Chapter 2, behind a rock.

WINGED GUARD

A large blade suit with two large wings of blades Paine uses to slice and dice her enemies. The dressphere is mastered with two key items: Corpus Invictus, gives Break HP Limit, found in the second (after Cid is found) secret dungeon in Thunder Plains, behind a false wall; and Victor Primoris, gives Break Damage Limit, obtained by riding a chocobo to the northernmost curve in the Mi'ihen Highroad; at the gap, the chocobo will hesitate and then fly up to a chest.

WAR MACHINE

A large salvaged machina Rikku uses to bombard her enemy with attacks. The dressphere is mastered with two key items: Machina Reactor that gives Break HP Limit, can be accessed in the same chapter as the Chocobo Ranch is set up, by gaining access to the Ruin Depths. The ruins are a secret dungeon at the back of the ranch. The other item is Machina Booster that gives Break Damage Limit, and is found in a chest at the bottom of the lift up to the Youth League HQ at Mushroom Rock Road during Chapter 5. Machina Maw is found in Chapter 2 in Bikanel Desert in the Oasis.

FESTIVALIST

The girls don traditional Japanese festival outfits and attack with spinning objects and fireworks. Each girl has a different set of weapons. Yuna uses Temari (balls attached to her wrist) and sandals and specializes in elemental magic; she can also deal two attacks at once. Rikku uses cotton candy and fish in a plastic bag and specializes in elemental physical damage. Paine uses a giant fan and a mask and specializes in dealing status conditions with physical damage. The dressphere is obtained by talking to Brother when the player is on the airship for the first time. A second copy can be acquired by beating the Grand Cup: Hard three times.

PSYCHIC HACKER

The girls wear school uniforms and stylized futuristic visors. As the name suggests, Psychic utilizes mental energy and the laws of physics to engage in combat. Psychic dressphere is obtained by beating the Standard Cup in the Fiend Arena.

FREELANCER

In Iutycyr Tower, each dressphere has a HP designation; if it runs out of HP, it breaks and the girls have to wear the next dressphere in line. If they run out of dresspheres, they will be reduced to wearing their sleepwear. At this point, the girls are at their highest levels, but have no abilities to use, and can do nothing but punch and kick for beating fiends.
